Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Determine environmental impacts of outdoor recreation activities.
   • Interpret organisational minimal impact plans, practices and codes for the specific outdoor recreation activity.
   • Identify potential environmental impacts caused by activity and identify specific causes.
   • Evaluate consequences of impact on the environment including heritage or cultural sites.
2. Communicate minimal impact practices to participants.
   • Explain aims of minimal impact plans and practices to activity participants.
   • Communicate unique aspects of the setting and potential impacts of activities.
   • Provide clear participant instructions for minimal impact practices and any cultural protocols for heritage or cultural sites.
   • Monitor participant adherence to practices and assertively correct breaches.
3. Conduct activities with minimal impact.
   • Follow organisational minimal impact plans, practices and codes throughout all activities.
   • Comply with conditions of land manager permits and permissions that relate to location usage and practices.
   • Use equipment in a manner that reduces impact on the natural environment.
   • Demonstrate appropriate behaviour toward the environment when interacting with participants.
   • Utilise heritage or cultural sites according to land management requirements and codes.
   • Note and report any inappropriate practices to relevant personnel and provide suggestions for improvement.
